I begin each piece with a vision in mind, but allow the materials and my instincts to guide me as I work. I believe that the process of creating art should be just as fulfilling as the finished piece.

My art is heavily influenced by nature and the beauty of the world around us. I strive to capture the essence of my subjects and bring them to life on paper.
My art journey began in 1993 when I started taking classes. The more I learned, the more deeply I was drawn into this amazing world. I have been involved in art and creative projects all my life, and professionally through my extensive publishing background in my business career,
I enrolled at Metropolitan State University planning to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. In 1995 I transferred to the University of Colorado at Denver, While there I discovered my second passion, Geology. This science dovetails with the landscapes that I love to study and paint.
During my time at CU, I enrolled in their Study Abroad Program attending an advanced Painting and Drawing semester in Italy's Veneto region, a short distance from Venice. During that time we traveled extensively around all the cities and towns of northern Italy. My graduation from CU was in May of 2001. In September of that year I opened a fine art gallery with my partner Tracie Archibold for a year. The Archibold & Maxwell Fine Art Gallery was in Englewood, CO. It was a great opportunity to learn the many aspects and intricacies of the business of art. My art travels have included many trips to Italy and around countries in Western Europe. The architecture, museums, and culture are a veritable profusion of creative inspiration.
In addition to working in the watercolor medium, I also paint in oil, acrylic, soft pastels, gouache, egg tempera, collage, alkyd, colored pencil casein, charcoal, graphite and printmaking, I also love to combine several for creative mixed media collage pieces. The possibilities are unlimited.
My continuing art education has been at the Art Student’s League of Denver, workshops at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, NM, and many through the Paint Box Guild of Littleton. I was formerly the treasurer of the Paint Box Guild for 8 years and I am now the webmaster for their website and my own as well, and I also produce marketing and promotional materials for the Paint Box Guild.
I am a Signature Member of the Colorado Watercolor Society and have taken workshops through them. A fascinating trip with a watercolor group to Ecuador and the Galapagos in South America enabled me to see and live the science of geology and art intersecting with one another.
You are invited to take a tour of this artist's imagination and suspend everyday realities for a walk through the perspective of another dimensional viewpoint. My many plain air painting travels include locales all over the West. Colorado and New Mexico are favorite places to paint. God willing, I have adventures coming up that are calling out to my soul and paint brushes.
